GEOMETRY GURUS SAT ONBOARDING VIDEOS

Onboarding (Step 1) - Mindset Module

Video 1: Expectations and Parent Involvement

You guys are almost adults, which means we will treat you as adults. However, that doesn't mean that we won't get your parents involved if we absolutely have to.

Here is everything that we notify parents about:

  1. Midpoint calls: (These are the check-in calls that you every 2-4 weeks depending on your situation) Your parents are expected to come to these! This way, they can also be there to learn more about how you are doing right now.

We’ll provide your parents with weekly progress reports that cover your performance in key areas. These reports are purely objective snapshots of your progress — not meant to scare you or get you in trouble. Remember, what can be tracked can be improved!:

  1. Class and Office Hour Attendance...
    • How many group classes are you attending every week?
    • How many office hours did you register for?
  2. Are you on track with your 1:1 sessions with your coaches?
  3. Are you doing your mandatory problems and practice exams on the test prep platform?

We understand that sometimes, you miss a day or two of practice, but long lapses of no practice will be reported to your parents.

Long lapses of no diagnostics will be reported to your parents.

These are the things you need to do to succeed in this program. If you don't do the things outlined in this program, then you will not improve!

Your parents paid thousands of dollars for you to be here, so make the most of your time here.

Video 2: Not Improving? Watch This Video

Let me be honest with you guys: It is 100% your fault if you are not improving. It's not your parents' fault, it's not your tutors' fault — you need to hold yourself 100% accountable for the results that you get here.

The sooner you learn that you have no one to blame besides yourself, the faster you can see results and the better you will be in your life.

Remember, it's YOU who will take the test, not us, not your parents.

Yes, we need to provide you a path to getting results, and we need to take you to the water, but you actually need to drink it.

Now if you are not getting the results that you want, ask yourself these questions:

  1. Are you attending 100% of all your classes even when you don't feel like going?
  2. Are you attending your office hours consistently?
  3. Are you doing your weekly diagnostics?
  4. Are you doing your daily problems?
  5. Are you taking advantage of your 7-day-a-week support?

I see so many students get problems wrong, and then they never reach out for help, expecting someone to save them — and guess what? They don't get the results that they want.

Guys, you will never WANT to do hard work, but you need to do it anyways. The most successful people are the ones who do things that they don't want to do, regardless of how they feel.

Onboarding (Step 2) - Important Links for the Program

Video 1: Download Slack on Your Computer and Phone

Download Slack on your computer and on your phone for important announcements and communication with your SAT coaches.

If you do not do this step, you will miss out on important announcements.

Download links:
For Windows computers: https://slack.com/downloads/windows
For Mac computers: https://slack.com/intl/en-gb/downloads/mac

For your phone, simply look it up on the App Store.

Make sure that your mobile (phone) notifications are on!

Log in with your main Google/email account so that you can easily sync between devices.

Once you have Slack downloaded on all devices, you will receive an invite from our organization to join the Student Mastermind. If you did not get an invite, contact us IMMEDIATELY!

Video 2: All Important Links on This Website!

Do the following:

  1. Right click on your "Bookmarks" tab, and then select "Add Folder" and name it "Geometry Gurus".
  2. I have made it extremely easy for you guys to have all of the links for the Master Schedule, test prep platform, 1:1 sessions, office hours, and student success calls. They are all on this website here:
    https://www.geometrygurus.com/studenthome

As a reminder, you DO NOT need to register for group sessions if you are enrolled in them. You just click the links on the Google Calendar.

Video 3: Class Schedule - Access and How to Use

Bookmark the link to the schedule here and add it to your Geometry Gurus folder:
https://teamup.com/ks5c2vzhteb8y4cu1a

Try your best to consistently stay with one section of math and one section of English, but if you need to be more flexible, it shows you how to do it in the video.

Remember, Monday and Tuesday works on the same material and Wed/Thurs/Fri works on the same material.

This means (for group students): Do 1 math and 1 English on Monday/Tuesday and 1 math and 1 English on Wed/Thurs/Fri.

Important: You do not need to register for group sessions, only for office hours. For group sessions, you can just click on the section and then click the Zoom link.

Video 4: How to Use Your 7-Day a Week Support Chat

As a reminder, you have 7-day-a-week private support access to all of your tutors via Slack.

This is why it's so important to have Slack downloaded on your phone/computer and to have mobile notifications ON!

Simply go to Slack, click on your channel (it is the only one you see besides the general chat, with your name) and ask any questions, send any screenshots, or express any concerns in that channel.

After watching this video, please text your private support channel:

"I acknowledge that this is my private support channel."

Onboarding (Step 3) - How to Use the Test Prep Platform

Video 1: How to Register for the Test Prep Platform + Dashboard Overview

In this video, I show you how to register for the test prep platform/course and I give you an overview on what is covered in the Geometry Gurus Test Prep Platform.

Make sure that you have your Geometry Gurus test prep platform OPEN so you can follow along for the rest of this module.

Everything you think we can track... we track.

On the platform, you can see the following:

  • Your score trends (you must be doing regular diagnostics to see this)
  • How many minutes you spend practicing on the platform and the number of problems per day you complete
  • The SAT concepts that you are missing the most (units and subunits)
  • The SAT concepts that you are spending too much time on (units and subtopics)
Video 2: How to Add Your Parents to the Platform

This step allows your parents to monitor your progress and see the work you do every single day.

Video 3: What is Self Practice and Targeted Practice?

In this video, I go over what is self practice versus what is targeted practice.

Self Practice: Takes into account your weaknesses across all the data on the platform (all your tests, all your practice problems) to give you practice problems catered to your weaknesses. The more problems you do, the better the system adapts to your weaknesses.

Targeted Practice: Takes into account the weaknesses that were exposed from a single test to give you practice problems.

Analogy: If I was going to repair a broken house, self practice is the blueprint to rebuild the entire house, and targeted practice is the blueprint to rebuild a specific part of the house (e.g., the kitchen).

Video 4: Where to Find Practice Exams, Self Practice, and Targeted Practice

This video will show you where to find your self and targeted practice and where your practice exams are.

Video 5: MOST IMPORTANT (Part 1): What Are My Weaknesses?

Watch this video so you understand your biggest SAT weaknesses (both accuracy and where you spend too much time).

Remember, this data dynamically changes — as you do more work, it updates with more data. Practice every day so more data is updated!

Video 6: MOST IMPORTANT (Part 2): Combine the Video Course and the Test Prep Platform

READ FIRST: The following video curriculum view is slightly outdated. We recently moved the entire curriculum so that everything is on this one platform (the one you’re using right now), so there’s no need to bounce between platforms.

Everything in the video curriculum lines up directly with the topics that are tested in the test prep platform.

Watch this video to see how you can use the test prep platform and the video curriculum for complete mastery of all 64 SAT subtopics.

Video 7: How to Mark Questions for Help + Find Your Missed Problems

This video shows how to mark questions for help and where to find your missed problems so you can review efficiently.

Onboarding (Step 4) - Your Daily/Weekly Responsibilities

Video 1: Due EVERY MONDAY: Part 1 (Practice Exams)

You should be taking one type of SAT Assessment every week.

Operate on this cadence:

  • Week 1: Full SAT Assessment
  • Week 2: English and Math (section only)
  • Week 3: Full SAT Assessment
  • Week 4: English and Math (section only)

Then repeat the cycle.

Couple notes:

  1. V2 tests are harder than non-V2 tests and are designed for students scoring above a 1300 right now on the regular exams. If you are scoring above a 1300 on a practice/real exam, use the V2 tests.
(For students under 1300, your coaches may occasionally assign a V2 test. If you’re unsure which to take, ask your coaches.)
  2. Do not do the same numerical test twice. Example: If you took D-SAT Adaptive Test 03 (V2), do not take the non-V2 D-SAT Adaptive Test 03 (and vice versa).
  3. Do not repeat a test you have already taken. If you miss a week of testing, always default to a full-length exam next week REGARDLESS of where you are at in the test-taking pattern.
Video 2: Due EVERY MONDAY: Part 2 (Targeted Practice)

Targeted practice (as mentioned prior) gives you problems based on the weaknesses exposed by one particular test. For example, if you take Digital SAT 01, the targeted practice for that test is specifically for that one test.

  • Do a targeted practice for every weekly Adaptive Assessment you take, whether it’s full or section-only.
  • Do a targeted practice for the test before any other self practice.
  • You can do a targeted practice immediately after the test, or later by finding it in the Assessment categories.
Video 3: Due EVERY DAY: Self Practice (See Video)

Summed up:

  • Do the Question of the Day every day as a warm-up.
  • On days you are not doing a practice exam or a targeted practice (the two Monday items), you should do Self Practice.
  • The best ways to do Self Practice are documented in this video.

Baseline requirement: 40 problems a day, 5 days a week (200 per week) — typically one module of Math and one module of English.

  • If needed, you can spread the 200 problems across more days (e.g., 7 days) or fewer — that’s fine.
  • Consistency drives results. Do not cram all 200 problems into 1–2 weekend days. ASK US HOW WE KNOW!
  • I’d rather see consistent daily practice than no practice.
  • No excuses — great results require great work.

Onboarding (Step 5) - Complete First Practice Exams and 1:1 Session

Video 1: Complete Your First Practice Exam and Book Your First 1:1 Session

READ FIRST: You must complete this diagnostic exam before doing any 1:1 sessions:

https://testprep.geometrygurus.com/start/VPMA1YX8V4DX

(Some of you may have received this link already in your enrollment call, but it is here just in case you didn't.)

IMPORTANT: We will not accept any previous diagnostic exams you did with another program/tutor or by yourself. Those do not give us the data that we need.

This is a full-length diagnostic exam, so make sure that you set aside 3 hours to do it in its entirety. Do not start this exam (or any future exam) if you are not going to be able to complete it in one sitting in a quiet environment.

Book your first 1:1 Session after completion by pinging your private support channel on Slack.
